Our Weekend in Pictures

Dwayne took the day off last Friday because we had to meet with the site supervisor to sign the final drawings for our house. His mum also comes to stay with us for the weekend every last Friday of the month so it was a busy few days. A nice kind of busy.

They have started building the house and I'm sure we'll be moving in before you know it! As it is, I cannot believe I've been back at work for 7 months already! Which also means, Miranda is growing up! Luckily, our darling girl just so happens to want us to see her every "first", which is just about the nicest thing.

This weekend she was very generous with her kisses, and she even gave her Aunty Kelly & Uncle Paul kisses. Funny thing. she just refuses to acknowledge their newborn baby, Eliana. Don't know if she's just too young to understand or she's being jealous, because she sure does kick up a fuss when Dwayne picks his god-daughter up.

She's also started sitting still long enough for me to read her bedtime story right to the very end. She participates in the stories by pressing the buttons or touching-and-feeling. This Momma could NOT be prouder.

Miranda with Grandma.

Shopping at the local mall and getting my little Sticky Date cupcake (from Cupcake Bakery) dose of the week. It's so good that it's usually sold out by the time I get there.

The mother-in-law made us nasi lemak for dinner. The chicken wings were to die for. Soooo crispy and good.

My hire from China - Dwayne did the monthly cleaning while us ladies left him to go shopping.

Miranda at the play area.

This little Japanese-Aussie girl, Veronica, was so taken with Miranda and she kept following her everywhere.

Cutie pies at play.

Preparing the prawn stock for dinner that night.

Yep, for Hokkien Mee. Dwayne requested for it again. That was the second time that week I made the dish. Loooooong process.

Miranda kissing Dolly good night.

Vintage necklace I scored online. Major love.

Lunch with Amrit & Kat - Indian food at Palms in Glen Waverley. Good stuff.

Miranda in a really beautiful dress, gifted by one of my friends. Too bad she had to wear a cardigan over it, as it was quite chilly. The dress has to come out and play again soon.

The Emmys... And That Colour!

Did you guys manage to catch the Emmys?

I didn't. Not even the repeat telecast, since I just about crashed after the "work-home-cook-put Miranda to bed" routine, which happens everyday.

Jon Cryer won best actor for comedy. I'm still hmm-ing about that. Two and a Half Men without Charlie Sheen just doesn't cut it for me.

Anyway, anyone noticed how there were so many chartreuse-y, limey colored dresses at the event?

Claire Danes in this number that looks so comfortable, yet elegant.

 Julianne Moore all covered up.

And my favourite of the lot - Julie Bowen's dress.

I've always been in love with this shade -so gorgeous and delicious!

Naturally, I started searching for something in this colour for myself.

But I ended up finding things for Miranda instead.... as usual!

Can\'t wait to find something for myself too!

Char Kway Teow

Char kway teow is definitely one of my favourites of the hawker food in Singapore. What's not to love about the wide, flat noodles stir fried in black sauce and accompanied with lap cheong, chinese chives and cockles?

Okaaay, I guess a lot of you don't eat cockles but I tell you, personally, it's just such a love affair for me hah!

(When we went back to Singapore in February, Dwayne and I ordered a plate of half-cooked cockles at Newton -on more than one occasion- and sat there, opening them up, one by one and dipped them into the chilli. We savoured them one by one. Every cockle, a pure delight!)

Anyway, around this side of Melbourne, my father-in-law has been proclaiming that Penang has the best char kway teow. I've never tried it but oh well, the way he carries on about it, I do wish I have!

I try to please this man's palate the way I do my husband's sometimes because he does take such good care of our daughter so I decided to make it using this recipe.

The FIL gave it an 8.5/10. I don't know what the .5 is all about but I was pleased enough!

Also, for all that talk about cockles, alas there aren't any to be found around here so I had to substitute it with prawns. Just for that, I have to give this char kway teow a 7.

Lap cheong and friends all stirring around.

OD on Chinese chives. I love it so!

Shiokness plated up.

Miranda's 1st Birthday... & Dwayne's 31st

It's been a mad few weeks - even after the birthdays of the two loves of my life, there were other types of catching up to do.
We had the best time at the birthday party despite everything that happened prior to it (work wise) but I'll let the pictures do the talking. Wheee~~~

The set-up - only managed to get a picture once everyone had started to eat.

I realised it was going to be kinda pointless doing beyond what I did. Miranda wouldn't even remember. But that said, it was a good thing too. I was bone tired just preparing this!

On the other hand, a party was a must, just to preserve the memories through the pictures for her.

Party favors for the kids.

Matching cutlery.

The cake.

I'd wanted to do ice cream cupcakes but since there was a 3 tier cake already, I decided to do strawberry rice krispies. Funnily enough, this was the birthday boy's favourite I think!

Birthday buddies.

My happy, pretty baby.

Blowing out the lone candle.

Dwayne's name was on the other side of the cake, not pictured.

Sleepyhead knocked out right after cake-cutting and woke up to cake!

Knew I had to get her this dress online from Macy's as soon as I saw it. So fun and cute.

Miranda in her Man Utd jersey, enthralled by Elmo.

Miranda's gifts - toys/ books/ shoes

Miranda's gifts - the clothes.
I will post a picture of her insane wardrobe soon, actually!

What a lucky Momma I am, to have this little cheeky girl.

Family :)

On their actual birthday, which also coincided with Fathers Day here in Australia, we went for yum cha. Miranda loved it and for the first time, I didn't have to worry about her screaming everytime she wanted more food. Chinese restaurants are always super boisterous, perfect for the little ones. :)

Very important people on that day.
She was wearing a badge that said, "I am 1 today" hahaha.

Then we got home and took (nearly) a million pics of Miranda in her sunglasses and little mic she stole from Elmo.

It was a lovely day, and I'm glad I got to spend it alone with them, selfish as it may sound.

A house, a house! A new house!

I got a call from Dwayne yesterday afternoon, telling me that the land for our house is officially ours!

A few weeks ago, at the site.

Three weeks ago, we went to pick the materials for the house. It was really exciting and scary at the same time. I mean, it's one thing to go on Pinterest and create all those boards for the things you like. It's quite another to work on a budget and actually pick stuff out. By all means, I'm no interior designer so it was a little nerve wrecking. In the end, I think we did ok but I've had a few sleepless nights, spent googling how it's all going to come together. Ahhh, women right?

Now that that's done, I've been thinking of the themes for each room. If I had it my way for every little thing, I'd like lots and lots of chandeliers! Modern ones- not those super grand, ornate types. Not sure that we can have that though.

As usual, Miranda comes first and as soon as I saw this pillowcase, I knew these colours would be in her next room. I'm gonna give her a mint blue-green colored room with pops of pink! And the pretty chair from this post would go so well but I don't know if it will be functional.

Also, it looks like I will have to get her another little bookshelf. We've outgrown this one - something I'm not so secretly happy about. :)

Hello, Sexy Thing!

I just came across this beautiful DVF shoe! Look at the heel and how it seems to cross like a pair of legs ahhhh!

Sheer design perfection :)

Definitely dream shoe material!

Thank you for coming by, September :)

It was crazy the past two weeks and I'm just so thankful that it's all over. I never have to deal with some people again. I'm sure there are some remnants of the split that need to be sorted out but at least I don't have to pretend to be nice about it. I don't even have to be cordial if I don't want to. After all that's gone down, I'm only too eager to burn the bridges. Last night we celebrated with coffee cake and champagne in cheap disposable glasses. Relief.

But last week... is going to be a week to remember forever.

We had take-out a lot, thanks to my staying back at work till 9pm. It's something I used to do all the time in Singapore - well, it used to be even later back then. Now though, it's not something I'd like to be doing anymore. Certainly not with a kid that I barely saw last week and on the week leading up to her birthday too.

I had grand plans to start on her decor, her cakes, cake pops etc. but I could not do anything till the Friday I was off. I kinda wanted to go back in on Friday just to see how it all panned out at the close of the business day and the start of the split but it just wouldn't have been fair to Miranda. Or Dwayne, for that matter.

In the end, I had no time to crumb coat her cakes with buttercream before putting on the fondant - it was also my first time working with fondant. In the end, the cake was definitely lot less than perfect - you could actually see that it was not thought out at all and that broke my already broken heart even further.

Thankfully, only the best of our friends came and they all had a great time. The Husband, whose birthday party it also was, did a nearly 15 minute video for Miranda, which everyone (said they) enjoyed.

Miranda had a million presents. Well, it definitely seemed like it, from all the ripped apart wrapping paper strewn all over the kitchen!

I will be posting all the photos soon, so watch out! :)

In the meantime, I leave you with this photo (from a whole super funny series we took) of Miranda. We laughed till our bellies ached and cheeks hurt. Well, at least I did.
