One More Week

One more week to Christmas and this is perhaps the most ill-prepared I've ever felt. The clothes and the gifts are mostly ready but I feel like I haven't managed to tackle a lot of things on my imaginary to-do list. Yes, even the list is still imaginary.

SO this is my very unglam to-do list:

1. Buy the kids' shoes for Christmas.
2. Clean the oven.
3. Bake sugar cookies with Miranda.
4. Finish buying gifts for overseas and...
5. Send out overseas presents.
6. Order books for my Kindle.
7. Organise a stationery station for the kids' art.

At the moment, I'm feeling very excited about the kids' reactions to the presents (both my kids' and my nieces'). They have all got some coolstuff. I'm also looking forward to spending some quality time with the girls during the holidays. Miranda even has some birthday presents that we haven't gotten around to opening.

But then, not to be a Grinch or anything, I also want to take down the Christmas tree as soon as possible.

I absolutely cannot wait for the new year.

I would say that this year has been very trying for the most part but we did have two amazing holidays and managed to see some of our friends who took a holiday here in Melbourne too so it wasn't that bad. But I do believe next year will be better.

You know, I really wonder whether all mothers of 2 kids of the same gender feel this way - SO tough trying to be fair to the second kid, toys-wise! It seems like we have already bought everything a little girl Alexa's age could want.

It is completely the opposite for Miranda - there are just so many things to get for that girl. To be honest, I wanted to include quite a few other things but with the lack of options for Alexa, I decided to stream down the list for Miranda too. Alexa is at an age where she's still a baby but not quite. And I'm not a fan of delayed gratification for Christmas gifts. No point getting something they can't use immediately if it's a gift (unless it's clothes/ shoes - but even then!).

Miranda's gifts

Two books - Miranda has been asking about space recently, which makes me quite happy! Anything that can veer her away even slightly from the princesses is a welcomed break. However, to be honest, I don't know much about space myself, besides the planets and stuff so I'm actually looking forward to reading See Inside Space with her.

I think she would be able to handle Matilda, seeing as she loved The Giraffe, The Pelly & Me so much.

She's asked for a Minnie Mouse water bottle for ages and since Alexa keeps stealing whichever bottle she's using, I decided to let her have one (although we have so many water bottles already, it's not even funny?!).

Miranda made a list to Santa and asked for quite a few Frozen toys. Since she had also asked for a Ken doll, whom I am personally not a fan of, we decided to get her the Anna + Kristoff dolls instead haha!

She's also getting a bicycle! She wanted the Frozen (AGAIN!) bike but I put my foot down to Dwayne, who would get the girls anything they ask, and went for a timeless vintage bike.

Alexa's gifts

Alexa loves little babies so much. She starts speaking in a high-pitched sing-song voice whenever she so much as sees a baby photo so we got her Baby Ariel. After hunting around for baby dolls, they all seemed a bit freaky-looking except for the Disney versions. And it's hardly like me to opt for the Disney version!

Two books - Beautiful Oops & something from the Little Pookie series, some beginner painting materials from Micador and a sweet little wooden pram for her baby doll.

I hope they'll be happy, come Christmas morning! :)

A little baking tutorial from Baker Miranda

My little darling had been bugging me to bake with her for a while now. Since we didn't have anything better to do last Friday, we managed to bake some brownies and in the meantime, also record a little tutorial. She's such a natural! I have watched this video dozens of times now.

The Bookshelf

My bookshelves now house more than just my books. Miranda has 4 shelves especially for her - her books, games and puzzles and Alexa has 2 shelves of her own. So it's just timely that I was gifted the Kindle by the BFF!

Spring Cleaning

Went to research on why my Japanese maple leaf tree is not turning red right after this shot.

The past few weekends have been all about cleaning out clutter and excess. I attacked the kids' cupboards first, then the pantry, the fridge, shoe shelves, the linen cupboard, bookshelves, the "storage" stuff outside like the boxes on Miranda's easel and the bench unit. This week I'm planning to do the big one - I'm going to clear out my wardrobe (again).

The kids have really been enjoying the weather - in the backyard, in the cubby house, going out to the city etc.

Ah, I don't want spring/ simmer to end!

Going to the city on Fridays with my girls is fun.

Going to the city on Fridays with all the girls is way more fun! :)

Stacking Like A Boss

I didn't really pay much attention to this stacking toy for the longest time. The other day, I saw Alexa shaking the smallest ring so I decided to guide her with stacking the rings instead. Three or four tries in and she got it all on her own! Woohoo! Go Lexie! :)

The past few nights have been quite trying.

Miranda has been crawling onto our bed and Alexa has been restless and comfort feeding every half an hour. Miranda also wants only me to cuddle her as does Alexa and DUDE, 3am is not the best time for negotiations.

So I find myself lying in between both of them. I've got my right boob yanked on Alexa's side with her little arm over my belly so I won't "leave" her and Miranda on my left, needing me to be close and wanting to be patted to sleep. I am Mommy, hear me roar?

I could feel helpless and exasperated but I know this is ending soon. I really do long for sleep though, but you know what, we'll get there. We'll all get there.

Truck Stop Deluxe

We are huge fans of burgers and milkshakes. In fact, every time we do our marketing at Footscray, we contemplate going to 8Bit for our fix. So this new burger joint that just opened near our place is SO WELCOME but SO DANGEROUS!!!

We went there post-"swim" on Grand Final day and well, two thumbs up from me for everything I tried except the Kinder Surprise milkshake I had. Next time, I might try it spiked with alcohol instead. :)

Kelly and I had a Kinder Surprise each, Dwayne had a Salted Caramel with maple bacon and Paul had a wagon wheel. Miranda had a raspberry milkshake and Eliana had a chocolate one.

E had a kids' burger and M had chicken nuggets.

Onion rings and chilli cheese fries in the background.

And in the foreground, the Colonel Burger - buttermilk fried chicken with mayo and coleslaw in a brioche bun. Yums!

Dwayne's Francis Underwood (House of Cards fan!) which was a beef patty and a mac n cheese croquette in a brioche bun. Twice the size of mine! He couldn't even finish it and didn't really enjoy because he said there was too much in the croquette and it was super rich and filling. I suspect I might like it still.

Ice-cream sandwiched in a donut. Need I say more?

I suspect we'll be going there again. ;p

Hawks Vs Eagles

The first year I was here during Grand Final, we were about to move into our previous place and needed to get a TV. Dwayne was rather desperate about it because how else could he catch all his premier league matches?

The city was a ghost town, hardly anyone there. The shops were open though. Si we ventured into all the department stores and electrical appliances shops. All the TV screens, at every shop, was showing one thing only - the grand final. I can't remember who was playing but I remember thinking, "Whoa. This. Is. Huge." It's their national sport, really.

Over the years, Dwayne has gotten into the sport and even started supporting a team (The Hawks. Coincidence?!) but unfortunately, I really can't get into it.

So I called his family over for a dip in the inflatable pool Darren gifted Dwayne for his birthday. Two families could fit into it. And it was a really nice way to just cool down on an otherwise sweltering day. Not complaining about the weather though. I swear I am loving this heat wave after all the chilly, wintery months!

Alexa is no longer content sitting on the sidelines.
She has joined the big girls' club and intends to stay in it!

Love Miranda's crossed legs here haha.

Can't wait for more days like these!

Eve of AFL Grand Finals!

So nice to have this new public holiday. Doesn't matter that I can't care less about footy - it's just nice to have a holiday haha!

I went for a run early in the morning and then chores took over for both of us throughout the day. The kids had a nap and then we joined some friends for a barbeque. :)

You'll find Miranda wherever there's chicken!

Lexie went to our friend's mum very easily - food wins this girl over!

Can't believe she's walking already. Miranda is so thrilled for her too!

The Constant State of Anticipation

It seems like all I do is wait for summer.

Dressed Miranda up in a skirt with leggings today for pre-kinder and she was so thrilled that she couldn't wait to see her best friend to show off her "new clothes". Poor kid has been in leggings and long-sleeved t-shirts with a jumper on alllll winter and our current temperamental spring (but still so thankful for the sunny weekends the whole September!). It must be nice to wear something a little different (still with leggings - it's not THAT warm yet and especially not in the mornings).

Saw some of these items on Country Road/ Seed/ New Balance/ Bardot Jr and Seafolly. Definitely on my wishlist! Miranda and Alexa are just growing at an alarming rate - most of the summer stuff I got them for our Singapore trip already do not fit. It seems every time I pick out a pair of shoes for Miranda, she complains that they're getting too tight. And Alexa needs some good pairs of shoes as well since our littlest lady is walking! :) ;)

I guess it's very well-documented now that Miranda loves puzzles and definitely has a knack for them. Our friends gave her this 300-piece for her birthday and seeing as it was Frozen-themed, I knew she'd hunker down very quickly to complete this. She did this over a few days, leaving it for a while even but eventually came back to it on Sunday morning with a little help from Dwayne. :)

Cadbury Goodness!

I sent some Vegemite chocolate to my friend in Vancouver to try and she sent me these in return.

What a lovely surprise!

The pretzel peanut butter was so good!!!

Cherie Girls

I will never tire of watching them giggle together.

Sunday Best

Alessandra Harper Joseph

My brother and his wife just had their baby girl join our wonderful world last Friday.

I cannot believe she's here now and she is just stunning! This little girl is already so, so loved!

This is the first time I saw my niece/ god-daughter via Face Time.

Can you tell how happy I am? Hahaha!

Just want to gnaw on those itty bitty cheeks!

Hong Kong - Disneyland video

Watching this again and aching for another holiday!

Fridate with My Girls

Took the girls out for a movie (Inside Out) on Friday. It was Alexa's first movie experience and tell you what - does that girl love herself some popcorn!!

Even though Miranda didn't really enjoy the show (we had to walk out after an hour plus), it was a good time had by all anyway. Alexa was actually quite good in the cinema. It helped that I brought lots of snacks and that it was a kids' session early in the morning.

Went for a Dinosaur Train thing going on at the centre. My friend M was there with her daughter too. They aren't into the cartoon or anything but loved the dancing bit.

After that, lunch, library and home. :)
